Anya/Elmo and Ephraim/Cookie Monster all tuckered out at Moonlight Madness Thursday evening.

Tonight we did treats at the church, in the neighborhood and at Sonic. Elena switched to her Narnian royalty costume for the festivities.

Let’s say that Z morphs from dream to reality in December. It’s what I want, but is it what’s right for me and/or our family?

After all, it’s not as though life is terribly unpleasant for us right now (irrational self-castigation aside). No major damage will occur if none of Z’s components comes to fruition. On the other hand, with Z’s known unknowns (and unknown unknowns à la Rumsfeld), I can imagine all sorts of negative consequences. The “what if…” train can be a runaway one before I know it.

Z’s obvious benefits appeal to me, though, and I anticipate many unknown blessings , whether I’m picturing those cursed side-effects or not. The cost-benefit analysis I utilized many times back in my debating days won’t work if I keep factoring in any idealized hopes or horribilized fears.

Opportunity costs are part and parcel of every action (or inaction) on my part. Right now, right now I’m of a mind to do everything I can to get to Z. If I change my mind in the next little bit, am I casting away my confidence as Paul writes, or am I realizing the error of my ways?

It’s a crazy life, yes, but then again, it’s *my* life. Did you really expect anything less?

Opportunities are knock, knock, knocking around here and they can transform into mathematics for public consumption*.

Z represents the scenario I want above all other known outcomes that at the moment. Z then, is the sum of the similarly desired results of three separate equations, (M + B + G) = Z . Because each of those equations has several variables, and so many of them beyond my control, those outcomes may not add up as I’d like.

H, C, and V will represent the real life answers to questions 1, 2, 3 respectively.

If the results are as follows:

1 H = M

2 C = B

3 V = G,

then (H + C + V) = Z my first choice.

BUT

1 H = M

2 C = B

3 V ¹ G because V = X ,

then (M + B + X) = A where A would be ranked as my second choice.

BUT

1 H = M

2 C = B

3 V ¹ G because V = Y

then (M + B + Y) = K represents my third choice.

If C ¹ B, then H = M will be delayed, with an indefinite delay if V ¹ G .

(When we get into the C ¹ B and H ¹ M possibilities, there’s no point in ranking anything because we’re dealing with negative rating territory.)

The final solutions for the three equations likely cannot be determined prior to December. However, the particular operations in the equations and the variables involved will appear in the coming days and weeks. Ultimately, our actions in the last two equations are completely dependent upon the decisions of others, which is frustrating in the limbo period. We can only control what we do and feel, though, so it’s imperative to focus on that and to pass those lessons on to our children.

Here’s to Z, everyone, may it come out on top!

Sunday Morning Sunrise

I awoke earlier than I expected to, and felt more energetic than I thought possible for the combination of great exertion and interrupted sleep. I remember my thoughts shifting out of dream mode, opening my eyes and immediately giving thanks to God for a dear friend carrying a heavy load. I prayed that I might somehow ease her burdens, or at the very least not add to them, and thus began my communion with God this morning.

At His suggestion I grabbed a sweater and headed out to the trampoline to watch the sunrise (I was still dressed from the day before, including sandals). Sliding open the door and stepping out onto the patio, breathing in the chilly air–oh it was glorious! Meditating under a sky rapidly filling with blue and the occasional flock of birds is something I haven’t done for a long time.

I thought today would be rather bittersweet for me, missing church meetings to pick up Girl Scouts from encampment. Instead I was delighted to find some quiet worship time that will carry me through to the next time I can meet with the saints, when I will joyously partake of both sacred emblems and the Spirit.

We just don’t do that much smiting around here

It’s a YMCA facility here in the valley, a place for people to put some exercise in their play. They have inflatable bouncers, DDRs, rock climbing treadwalls, skateboarding games, ATV races, a 6 level rubberband climbing structure and a couple of kick or hit the light stations. We all have a great time and work up a pretty good sweat.

Eph likes to play Dance Dance Revolution, especially when Richard’s steppin’ nearby.

Somewhere in the evening Anya took her onesie off and offered it to Elena sitting on the mouth of the inflatable dragon obstacle course. Cheanna spent most of her time in the bouncers, out of the pic taking range.

Emma is up on the top level of the stretchy climber.
