…the tiger is also a Catholic.
We enjoyed a small presentation by our ward mission leader about the mormon.org campaign and how it will be rolling out in our area soon. We viewed sample videos and discussed statistics. Stephen Colbert caught some of the previously released material and found it quite compelling. It comes in the middle of his segment here (2:10–3:40) but I think you’ll find the entire 5 minutes enjoyable. It’s just not as relevant to our Church lesson….
Verse upon verse

Last night we were waiting for Emma and Elena to clean up after Activity Days. As the girls put away finished projects, the leaders were restoring the room they were using to its seminary set-up and placed hymn books on the rows of tables. Ephraim promptly sat down at the back table and opened up the hymnal. “Look Mom, it’s like music stories!” as he flipped through the pages. He stopped at Hymn 31, “O God, Our Help in Ages Past“, and started reading the words out loud.
I wasn’t sure how well he would do with the way it was written–would he be able to put together the hyphenated words “a-ges” or “shel-ter”? Would he read them straight like a paragraph or read entire verses?
As it turns out, I had to help with only one word “Suf-fi-cient” and he did read the words verse upon verse. He finished up and I told him it was time to go round up his sisters and head home. He turned the page to the next hymn and started on that one as I had a good chuckle– ”The Happy Day at Last Has Come“.

(scene: this morning, my bedroom)
Anya: Mom is it time to get ready for church?
Me: No, it’s not Sunday. It’s Wednesday.
Anya: Oh. Well, why did you take a shower then?
Me: Because I was starting to stink.
Anya: Yeah. Your forehead stinks Mom, did you look up in the shower? You didn’t look up in the shower did you Mom?

(discussing her desire to go to Chuck E Cheese and how our friends were busy with their first day of homeschool)
Anya: I’m going to preschool.
Me: Well, there’s preschool at home, preschool at someone else’s home, and preschool in its own building.
Anya: I’ll have preschool.
Me: When you’re five you can go to kindergarten.
Anya: Kindergarten?
Me: Yes, when you’re five, next year.
Anya: Kindergarten when I’m five. Mom, is it five or is it eight?
Me: It’s five.
Anya: Okay, it’s five. (bounces happily out of the room)
What has Anya been watching???
She colored on her arm with a blue pen sometime yesterday and I commented on it this morning.
With a straight face, Anya said, “Yeah, I just wanted a tattoo.”
Something to make you laugh
It’s ten hilarious ads touting a new website for job seekers.
Life’s too short for the wrong job. (hat tip to BCC)
I think my favorite is the man with the cigarettes.

Edited to add something for the, ahem, nerdier side.
Roll a D6
I’ve been hanging on to this for most of May. It gets a lot of play time here. If you aren’t familiar with the original song you can find versions that show the somewhat bizarre lyrics on Youtube to see what a marvelous parody this is…
My Birthday Gift to Me
It arrived today, my copy of Bossypants. Reading it will be great when I’m not doubled over in pain–or a bit woozy from prescription pain medication. I’m wondering if my next gift to us all is to submit to laprascopy and see if we can figure out why this keeps happening. So much to do, so much crying on the couch, so many toddlers trying to jump on me–oy.
An excerpt, A Mother’s Prayer for Its Child. A story on Fresh Air, linked here, she reads part of the prayer just over a minute into the program.
Hilarity at New Cool Thang
I had a good laugh as I read this post by Kent (MC), New Sayings for Mormon Walls (and Decorative Tiles) Be sure to scroll down through the comments for additional humorous suggestions.
My friend Ajoy has one up in her kitchen, and I’m biffing it due to poor memory,
“Many people have eaten in this very kitchen and no one has died yet”
(Ajoy if you’ll leave the quote in a comment, I’ll update the post with the accurate phrasing)
In the way of full disclosure, I do have a pink heart vinyl lettered wall that hangs (or will once we finish painting) with our family photos:
All Because Two People Fell In Love”

I haven’t told anyone the real reason we moved to the microburbs. Our search for a new, larger home coincided with a woman whose story has touched me in ways I can’t express, Nadya Suleman.
I realized that we could do the same thing–we could have my beloved OB assist us in the miracle of creating new lives. Yes, you are reading that correctly, dear reader. I’m pregnant like I’ve never been pregnant before. If all goes as to the plan, we will welcome 6 little ones sometime late summer, depending on how many weeks we can all make it. 32 would be great. Any baby shower(s) thrown for us would have to be earlier to reflect that.
But then again, I’ve gone early with everyone after Duncan. There’s no way I could carry multiples to term.
Ugh, I know what you’re thinking–who in their right mind plans a summer pregnancy in Arizona??? We’re renewing our YMCA membership, and we’re looking at building a splash pad in the backyard, so I can fight the heat that way. I still have my maternity swimsuit too!
I went shopping with friends for maternity clothes at Saver’s. We found 4 tops and 3 pairs of shorts/capris that are adorable. I can’t wait to see how they look with a bigger belly! =)
I hope this post has left you with the wonderful smile I have as I type it. Thanks for your time today, my dear reader.
Confession #4.1 The first two paragraphs expire[d] tonight at midnight [April 1]. Everything else is a true statement–I was 42 weeks with Duncan; I couldn’t carry multiples to term because we’re done having children; crazy people have summer pregnancies, heck, I’m living proof ; we are looking at a splash pad & the Y membership; my swimdress is in my dresser; I did have a successful shopping trip–for someone else; and I’m grinning like a fool while I’m writing this and I hope you are too!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Sure, sure, you tinted the milk for your Lucky Charms this morning, you’re wearing green from head to toe, you can’t wait for that yummy cabbage potato soup tonight, but how much do you *really* know about St. Patrick? If you’re like me, you know a fair bit and you owe it all to a most fanciful flannelgraph.
Big Idea TV has the VeggieTales St. Patrick’s Day video short to watch on their website–click here to watch the (mostly) educational and (somewhat) historical adventures of young Maewyn Succat.
It should really say something about how much I like the video, to know I crawled out of from under the covers & tissues & empty dayquil boxes to come share this nugget o’ joy with you, my dear reader. Now back to my regularly scheduled orange juice, garlic capsules and lightly buttered toast.
